Establish Facial Harmony
At Your Cosmetic Office in Encinitas, California, we understand that the decision to undergo a revision rhinoplasty can be very personal, even vulnerable considering you, perhaps, were not happy with your initial results. Double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Mario Yco, aims to address
functional concerns and establish facial harmony with your aesthetic desires in mind. It is always the goal to achieve these results with the initial nasal procedure, but Dr. Yco is committed to helping you look and feel your best by supporting you through every step of your aesthetic journey.
What Is Revision Rhinoplasty?
A revision rhinoplasty procedure refers to a nasal surgery that takes place after one or more previous nasal surgeries. A revision rhinoplasty can be done to further improve the appearance of the nose if someone is not happy with the results of their first rhinoplasty, but a revision can also be done to improve a patient’s breathing if their initial procedure did not help. Revision rhinoplasty can be tricky due to the unpredictability of scar tissue and how it may build up and affect the appearance of the nose after it has healed. Revision rhinoplasty is generally considered a trickier procedure than an initial rhinoplasty, which is why choosing a skilled, certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Mario Yco is so important.

Who Is a Candidate for Revision Rhinoplasty?
Revision rhinoplasty is for anyone wishing to fix the shape, appearance, or function of their nose after an initial rhinoplasty failed to produce the desired results. It is important that you are in good overall health before undergoing this procedure, and do not have any medical conditions that may lead to complications during surgery or recovery. It is especially important to go into a revision rhinoplasty with realistic expectations as this procedure is meant to enhance your look, not change it completely. The best way to determine your candidacy is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Mario Yco at Your Cosmetic Office.
Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure
The procedure for revision rhinoplasty is not too unlike that of an initial rhinoplasty. After discussing what you would like changed, you will be given a general anesthetic to ensure you do not feel anything and remain asleep during the procedure. An incision will be made below the nose, allowing access to the underlying tissue and cartilage. In most cases, revision rhinoplasty requires a cartilage graft from the ear or rib to be added to the nose to restore structure and support. Soft tissue irregularities may require a type of natural filler, like temporal fascia, that is taken from the hairline to enhance the bridge or tip of the nose. If scar tissue has built up in the nose, skin grafts may be required to help reopen the distorted nasal airway.
Post-Op Care
After your revision rhinoplasty you will experience some swelling and bruising around the eyes that will last for up to a week. A splint will be placed on your nose to help keep it in its new shape and dressing will be packed in the nostrils. The splint can be removed after around five days, and the dressing can come out after one or two days. Prescribed medication and cool compresses can be used to manage any post-op discomfort. Keeping your head elevated, even when sleeping, can help to reduce swelling and discomfort as well. If Dr. Yco feels that your recovery could benefit from some additional therapies, he may refer you to hyperbaric Co2 or red light treatments.
