Who Is a Candidate for CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing?
The ideal candidate for skin resurfacing with a CO2 laser is someone looking to treat the following concerns on the face:
- Facial wrinkles
- Deep lines
- Acne Scars
- Sunspots
- Age spots
Resurfacing with a CO2 laser can be performed on all areas of the face including the lower eyelids, perioral area, cheeks, and forehead. When combined with other aesthetic treatments, like exosomes, you can experience even further improvement in the texture, tone, and quality of the skin. CO2 laser resurfacing works best when there is increased contrast between the pigment of the skin and the skin concern. For this reason, it is not always effective for darker skin tones. The best way to determine your candidacy is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Yco.
CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure
On the day of your procedure you will be given local or general anesthesia depending on the area of the face you will be having treated. If the whole face is going to resurface, you will likely be given a general anesthetic. CO2 Laser skin resurfacing works by delivering very short fractional pulses of light energy to the surface and deeper layers of the skin. This light energy is able to detect skin damage and abnormalities and effectively fade them. Treatment for just part of the face can take 30-45 minutes, but treatment for the entire face can take up to two hours.
Post-Op Care
After treatment, you will be sent home with a surgical dressing over the treatment area. This should stay on for 24 hours. After the dressing has been removed you will be instructed to clean the face up to five times a day using a sterile saline solution. You can apply Vaseline to the treatment site to keep it moisturized and prevent it from scabbing over. In general, it can take anywhere from 10-21 days for the skin to heal. After that, you may experience some redness for up to three months. To optimize your healing, Dr. Yco may recommend hyperbaric CO2 treatments or red light therapy.
