The Cheek Implant
At Your Cosmetic Office in Encinitas, California, we see the artful practice of sculpting facial contours as an expression of individual beauty. Through the use of cheek implants, sometimes referred to as cheek augmentation, we can define and enhance the cheekbones. Whether you wish to create more prominent cheekbones and facial harmony or
want to correct signs of aging like volume loss, cheek implants are an amazing way to highlight and elevate your natural features. Double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Mario Yco, specializes in procedures designed to bring more definition and contour to the face while restoring your confidence at the same time.
Cheek augmentation, in this case, achieved through the use of cheek implants, is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance and define the contours of the cheeks. This procedure is particularly beneficial for individuals seeking to address concerns such as deflated or flat cheeks due to age-related volume loss. It is also great for those who wish to establish more symmetry and harmony in their overall facial appearance. Cheek implants come in all different shapes, sizes, and placements and can be personalized to each individual’s unique desires. The use of cheek implants not only restores a youthful fullness to the cheeks but can also contribute to a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing facial structure.

Ideal candidates for cheek implants are individuals seeking to enhance and define the contours of their cheeks or desire a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing facial appearance. Candidates may include those with naturally flat cheeks, or cheeks that have lost their definition due to volume loss. Weight loss and aging can contribute to a change in the appearance of the cheeks. Those wishing to have this procedure done should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations regarding the results. The best way to determine your candidacy for cheek implants is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Mario Yco at Your Cosmetic Office.
You will be given a local or general anesthetic during your procedure to ensure your comfort. Dr. Yco will begin by making an incision on the cheek inside of the mouth, or sometimes under the lower eyelid, before inserting the implant into the pocket under the skin. He will then reposition the implant according to your aesthetic desires before suturing up your incisions. Implants are typically made of synthetic silicone or polythene, but in some cases can be made from bone taken from your own body.
In most cases you will be sent home with gauze covering your incisions you may be advised to wear a tight compression garment to minimize swelling and support the new position of your cheeks. If your implants were placed via incisions in the inside of your mouth, you may be limited to a liquid diet during your initial recovery. Other post-operative instructions can include how to properly care for your wounds, what activities to avoid, and how to take your prescribed medication. It may take up to 6 weeks for swelling to completely resolve, but most people are able to return to their normal activities after 10 days. For optimal recovery, Dr. Yco may refer you to have hyperbaric Co2 treatments or red light therapy.
