The Ultimate Guide to Facelift Surgery: What You Need to Know

The aging process is not always kind and may make us look older than we are. Sagging jowls and wrinkled skin can make you feel less attractive. With advancements in cosmetic surgical procedures, you no longer have to accept the ravages of time– facelift procedures can remove years off your face and give you the youthful appearance you crave.

What Is a Facelift?

Facelifts, also known as rhytidectomies, are universally used to describe any facial surgery that removes or minimizes the signs of aging. Facelifts can be used to treat the following:

  • Facial sagging
  • Deep folds and creases
  • Lack of facial fat
  • Loose skin and excess fat

Although facelifts help undo the signs of aging, they do not stop the aging process and will not fundamentally change your appearance. We approach facelifts at YCO Facial Plastic Surgery with an individualized treatment plan since cookie-cutter treatment approaches are ineffective and leave behind unnatural results.

Types of Facelifts

Multiple types of facelifts are available and target different areas of the face and neck. We invite you to schedule a consultation appointment to see which procedures will be most beneficial:

Traditional Facelifts: Traditional facelifts involve surgical incisions in your hairline and behind the ears. First, the skin is separated, and then the underlying supportive tissues are tightened. Excess fat and skin are then removed and repositioned, and the operation is completed with stitches.

Deep Plane Face Lifts:  Deep Plane facelifts are the most comprehensive lift that releases ligaments, allowing for longer-lasting and more natural-appearing results.

Mid-Facelifts: Mid-facelifts target the cheek areas by removing or repositioning fat and tightening skin. This procedure is well-suited to patients with severe eye bags or smile lines.

Mini Facelifts: Mini facelifts target the lower portions of the face, including the jaws and neck– these procedures are less invasive and ideal for younger people who have fewer signs of aging.

Liquid Facelifts: Liquid facelifts focus on the skin only. The surgeon uses a combination of Botox and fillers to rejuvenate the skin without invasive measures. The results are not as dramatic but still provide a youthful appearance.

How to Prepare for Surgery

Before surgery, you will be required to undergo a consultation and subsequent tests to prepare for your facelift procedure. We recommend the following steps:

  • Stop smoking right away
  • Adjust your medication schedule according to instructions
  • Complete necessary bloodwork and tests
  • Avoid blood thinners, aspirin, NSAIDs, and other anti-inflammatory drugs that increase bleeding
  • Follow your diet plan– do not eat after midnight on the day of your surgery
