PATIENT TESTIMONIALS: THE IMPACT OF YCO

“Dr. Yco is very personable ”

My husband and I both met with Dr. Yco and his wonderful staff this afternoon. We were very impressed with the time they took to listen to our concerns and answer all our questions. Dr. Yco was very personable and besides his knowledge and years of experience, I could tell he really cares about his patients and doing what is best for them. Most important I did not feel like anyone was trying to sell or rush us on anything and if we decide to move forward with the treatments recommended. I am confident we will be in good hands.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that is more commonly known as a “nose Job”. This can be done for aesthetic reasons, such as removing a nasal hump, straightening the nose, or changing the overall appearance of the nose, or can be done for medical reasons, like improving breathing. Other concerns that a rhinoplasty can address include:

  • Nasal asymmetry
  • Facial balance and proportion
  • Nose profiles with visible bumps or humps
  • Large nostrils
  • Width and length of your nose
  • A bulbous or upturned nose tip
  • A hooked nose

With rhinoplasty, Dr. Yco can establish more facial symmetry and harmony and improve breathing issues that may be caused by a deviated septum.

Who Is a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

In order to be a candidate for rhinoplasty you must be in good overall health and unaffected by any medical conditions that may pose complications to your surgery and recovery. These can include certain heart and lung conditions. Most individuals looking to have rhinoplasty done are unhappy with the current shape, size, or appearance of their nose. Damage or malformations to the structure of the nose can lead to breathing problems that may cause someone to seek out rhinoplasty. No matter the reason you choose to have rhinoplasty done, it is important that you go into the procedure with realistic expectations regarding the results. The best way to determine your candidacy is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Yco at Your Cosmetic Office.

Rhinoplasty Procedure

To begin, you will be given general anesthesia that ensures you do not feel anything during the procedure. General anesthesia also causes you to remain asleep during the duration of the procedure. The surgical procedure will differ slightly depending on the correction that is to take place. For most aesthetic rhinoplasty procedures, Dr. Yco will make an incision under the nose in order to lift the skin and gain access to the tissue and cartilage below. He will then use a scalpel to remove excess cartilage followed by an osteoma to reshape the bone. During a cosmetic rhinoplasty, Dr. Yco is also able to go in and fix the nasal structure to correct any breathing issues.

Post-Op Care

Immediately following the procedure, your surgeon will place a small splint over the nose to protect and maintain the new shape of your nose. This splint will stay in place for around 5 days after surgery, but the dressing that has been packed into the nose can be taken out after one or two days. Any internal stitches will be absorbed by the body, but sutures that require removal will come out about a week later. Swelling and bruising around the eyes after surgery is very common and will go away after about a week. The swelling of the nose can persist for several weeks, taking up to a year for all swelling to be gone completely.

Your surgeon will prescribe medication for any pain, which can be quite uncomfortable for the first few days after surgery but is manageable with these meds and a cold compress. You may have the urge to blow your nose, but you must refrain from doing so for at least two weeks or until Dr. Yco directs you otherwise. You will also want to sleep in an elevated position for the first five nights. For a speedier recovery, Dr. Yco may refer you to hyperbaric Co2 treatments or red light therapy.
