A lip lift is an in-office surgical procedure used to either shorten the distance of a long upper lip or elevate the upper lip. Lip lifts reverse changes caused by the natural aging process. Lip lift surgical results are permanent, but your lips and face will continue to mature as you age.
There are many benefits to a lip lift, starting with improved self-esteem. As you age, gravity stretches and lengthens your top lip, causing the red part of the upper lip to roll inward. The appearance of thinner, longer lips can make you look older, especially when the upper lip falls downward and covers more of the upper teeth.
A lip lift shortens the upper lip, revealing more of the red part of the upper lip and creating a fuller appearance to your lips. Lip lifts give the middle of your face an overall lifted and youthful appearance.
Lip lifts are simple and straightforward surgical procedures that take place in the office. You may get a lip lift by itself or decide to combine the procedure with other facial procedures, such as a facelift.
Dr. Yco makes skin markings along your upper lip to guide the surgical procedure. Numbing medicine, similar to what you receive during a dental procedure, is injected into the area to ensure you remain comfortable. A portion of skin beneath the nose is carefully removed and the incision is closed with many small sutures to meet your cosmetic goals for your lips. After a lip lift procedure, the treated area is kept covered with antibiotic ointment. You will return to YCO Facial Plastic Surgery a few days later to remove the sutures.
The initial healing period takes 2-3 weeks after a lip lift. Immediately following your lip lift, the upper lip will be sore and swollen. Swelling may increase for the first several days after the procedure before it returns to normal.
You should avoid activity for the first several days after a lip lift and avoid exercise and exertion for two weeks.
