Are You a Good Candidate for a Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) Chemical Peel?

Are You a Good Candidate for a Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) Chemical Peel?

Are you trying to reduce wrinkles, skin discoloration, acne scars and other facial blemishes?  discoloration in your skin or eliminate noticeable acne scars? Have you tried various products only to get disappointing results? A trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel may be what you need.

As a skin rejuvenation specialist, Mario Yco, MD, offers comprehensive treatments, including TCA peels, at Yco Facial Plastic Surgery. Dr. Yco specializes in this type of peel to improve the appearance of skin, so it looks and feels younger.

What is a TCA peel?

A TCA peel is a noninvasive treatment that uses trichloroacetic acid to exfoliate dead cells from the skin, so healthy, new skin from beneath can shine through.

TCA peels are available in various strengths to treat a variety of common skin flaws and conditions. Depending on your aesthetic goals, Dr. Yco may recommend a TCA peel to address:

The strength of your peel depends on the condition you’re treating. A light peel can remove the upper surface layer of your skin to treat sun damage and age spots. You may need a stronger peel to remove more layers of your skin to treat moderate or severe wrinkles and deep-set scars.

Who can get a TCA peel?

To determine if you’re a candidate for a TCA peel, Dr. Yco spends time reviewing your medical history, assessing your skin health, and discussing your expectations for treatment.

Ideally, your skin should be clear of infections, and you should be in good overall health to be a candidate for a TCA peel. Treatments are available in a comfortable office environment and require minimal time for recovery.

Many people are able to tolerate the peel process well, and Dr. Yco ensures your safety throughout your procedure. He can also discuss what to expect during and after treatment during your consultation.

What’s involved in a TCA peel?

If you’re considering a TCA peel, here are some general guidelines of what you can expect during and after your procedure:

The procedure

First, Dr. Yco applies the TCA solution to your skin. The acid then penetrates the upper layers of your skin to remove dead skin cells. This then stimulates the growth of new, healthy skin cells.

When your peel is complete, we clean your skin and can apply a high-quality moisturizer to nourish your skin.

Most treatments take about 30 minutes, but individual cases can vary. Dr. Yco will discuss what will be needed and the time it should take.

Following your procedure

It’s normal to have some redness and minor swelling for several days after your treatment. Your skin will also be extra sensitive to the sun following your peel, so you’ll need to avoid the sun as much as you can and wear a protective sunscreen whenever you’re outdoors. You’ll also need to apply moisturizers daily to minimize peeling and flaking.

As your skin heals in the weeks after your peel, it should look younger and more vibrant. Your skin should also feel smoother and tighter, minimizing lines and creases.

We can also recommend skin care products you can use to protect your results in the long-term and suggest other aesthetic treatments we offer, such as Botox® injections and lip augmentation, to further enhance your appearance.
