What Is a Standard Facelift?
A standard facelift, or traditional facelift, is a facial plastic surgery procedure that addresses and corrects signs of aging in the face and chin area. There are many different kinds of facelift procedures including a mini-facelift, mid-facelift, and deep plane facelift, but a standard facelift is the most common and addresses the entire face as opposed to only a portion of it. A standard facelift can reduce overall signs of aging like facial wrinkles, excess skin, and sagging on your cheeks and lower face by pulling back the underlying tissue and muscle to make the facial skin look younger and tauter. With less sagging skin around your mid and lower face, you can look more like yourself when you were younger.
Who Is a Candidate for a Standard Facelift?
Most individuals who receive face lift surgery are in their 40s to 60s, but younger or older patients can have this facial cosmetic surgery done provided they are in good overall health and have realistic expectations. Those wishing to have a standard facelift done should be looking to correct signs of aging on the face like drooping, sagging, and creasing in the form of a surgical procedure with long-lasting results. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for this facial rejuvenation surgery is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Yco at Your Cosmetic Office.
PATIENT TESTIMONIALS: THE IMPACT OF YCO
Preparing for a Facelift
During a consultation, Dr. Yco will examine your face and neck and create a personalized surgical plan. You will discuss your goals for surgery and become fully informed about the risks involved (both rare and common) such as permanent hair loss at the incision sites, nerve injury, and poor wound healing. You will be given detailed preparation instructions including avoiding certain medications, avoiding food and drink, and arranging for transportation on the day of your procedure.
Standard Facelift Procedure
A standard facelift typically involves the use of general anesthesia. The process of your facelift may differ depending on whether or not you are combining this procedure with another cosmetic surgery such as a neck lift, brow lift, or eyelid surgery. A standard facelift begins with Dr.Yco making an incision around your hairline by your ears in order to sculpt, reposition, and lift your underlying facial muscles and facial tissues to a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing position, restoring facial aging. After that, he lays your skin back in the proper position and closes the incisions in your hairline. He may combine it with a neck surgery to remove any hanging or loose skin around the neck. Dr. Yco is a highly skilled facial plastic surgeon who uses care and special facelift techniques to minimize scarring as much as possible.
Benefits of the Facelift
Facelift surgery comes with many benefits. When performed properly, many facial plastic surgery clinics such as Your Cosmetic Office can produce natural contours and rejuvenating results that make you look as much as ten years younger. Additionally, a surgical facelift can produce much more noticeable and long-lasting results than non-surgical procedures like dermal fillers or Botox. Dr. Yco can help you learn more about facelift benefits during a consultation.
Post-Op Care
Immediately following a standard facelift, your skin will be swollen and bruised, but this will subside in a few days time. Pain medications can ease any discomfort, and Dr. Yco and his medical team will be there to monitor your progress as you heal. Dr. Yco will bandage your face to minimize swelling and he may also place a drainage tube behind your ear to help any excess fluid drain from the incision site. These drains will be checked 24 hours later by Dr. Yco. After a week, you will return to Your Cosmetic Office to have your sutures removed. Your initial recovery period may take up to two weeks, and you may need to take around 10 days off from work. He may suggest adding hyperbaric Co2 treatments or red light therapy to your recovery regimen.
