What is PRF?

Platelet-rich fibrin therapy is a cosmetic treatment that harnesses the body’s natural healing processes to promote tissue regeneration and enhance overall well-being. A concentrated form of platelet-rich fibrin is harvested from the patient’s blood which is rich in growth factors and bioactive proteins that are essential for healing and cellular rejuvenation. By strategically applying this PRF concentration, targeted areas can experience increased collagen production, tissue repair, and a more radiant and youthful appearance.

Who Is a Candidate for PRF?

The ideal candidates for PRF therapy are those seeking minimally invasive and natural treatment for various aesthetic concerns. PRF is particularly well-suited for those wishing to address signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and diminished collagen production. PRF can also help diminish the appearance of facial scars, acne scars, and uneven skin tone/texture. PRF can also help individuals struggling with hair loss by stimulating hair follicles and promoting new hair growth. Because this treatment relies on properties taken from the patient’s body, it makes it a great option for those with allergies that may prevent them from being able to receive other types of skin rejuvenation. The best way to determine your candidacy is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Mario Yco.

PRF Procedure

To begin your PRF treatment, two vials of blood will be drawn. They are then placed in a centrifuge where they are spun at an extremely high rate. This separates the PRF from the rest of the blood so it can be extracted. Before the PRF is injected into the treatment site, a topical numbing cream will be spread across the treatment area to ensure that you do not experience any discomfort during the injections. Depending on what you are treating, or if you are treating multiple areas, PRF treatments can last anywhere from 20-45 minutes.

Post-Op Care

PRF is a minimally invasive procedure, meaning that the downtime is rather minimal as well. You may experience some slight bruising and tenderness at the injection site immediately following treatment, but this should diminish after about a week. Because this treatment works in partnership with your biological processes, improvements are gradual. It can take one to two months for results to become visible. If you do have any discomfort after treatment, a cold compress or over-the-counter pain relief can be used to help. Dr. Yco may suggest hyperbaric Co2 or red light therapy to enhance your recovery and results.
