Surgical or Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty: Which Is Right for You

The shape or size of your nose may be something that bothers you enough to consider surgery. But, did you know that nonsurgical rhinoplasty solutions are available to enhance the aesthetic of your nose?

At Yco Facial Plastic Surgery in Encinitas, California, Mario Yco, MD, offers surgical and nonsurgical treatments that can address cosmetic and structural issues. In this blog, Dr. Yco explains what’s involved in surgical rhinoplasty and nonsurgical rhinoplasty and which may be right for you.

All about surgical rhinoplasty

Surgical rhinoplasty, which is often called a nose job, is a treatment in which Dr. Yco uses advanced surgical techniques to reshape your nose, fix structural problems, or both.

When it comes to cosmetics, Dr. Yco can improve your facial balance and symmetry by addressing:

Dr. Yco can also treat structural issues that affect your ability to breathe through your nostrils, such as a deviated septum. A deviated septum is a condition in which the cartilage that divides your nostrils is off-center. With surgery, Dr. Yco can center your septum to improve your ability to breathe.

The advanced rhinoplasty techniques Dr. Yco uses minimize your risk for long-term scarring. He makes incisions on the inside of your nose whenever possible to reshape existing cartilage or remove excess tissue.

All about nonsurgical rhinoplasty

Nonsurgical rhinoplasty, also known as nose beautification, uses injectable fillers to enhance the shape of your nose without the need for surgery.

Dr. Yco uses fillers, such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®, to reshape your nose with long-lasting results. These fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance already found in your body, to improve the volume of your nose and smooth out lines and creases nearby.

There are minimal risks associated with nonsurgical nose beautification, especially under the guidance of a skilled provider, such as Dr. Yco. You may have some bruising or swelling at the injection site, but it should go away within a few days.

The big differences between surgical and nonsurgical rhinoplasty

The decision whether or not to have surgery is a highly personal one. Our team can help you make the most informed decision based on your surgical goals and overall health.

Nose beautification is a minimally invasive procedure that involves multiple injections around your nose. This can be uncomfortable, but you should recover quickly and see results instantly.

Surgical rhinoplasty requires more of a commitment. Any type of surgery is serious, and you’ll need time to recover before you can get back to your usual activities. However, Dr. Yco can make more significant changes to your nose during surgery than he can with dermal injections.

The results of surgery also are permanent, so they’ll last longer than fillers. Injectables can improve your nose aesthetic for six months to two years before you’ll need additional maintenance injections.
