Cosmetic Face Lifts And Neck Lifts

Face Lift — With his additional training in head and neck surgery, Dr. Yco is expert at today’s most advanced face-lift and neck-lift techniques. He can reverse the effects of aging on the face and neck without it looking tight or unnatural. Tumescent liposuction may also be incorporated to add a more youthful contour to the neck and jowls.

A facelift restores smoother, more pleasing contours to your face and neck. It will improve the sagging of facial skin, the jowls, the nasolabial folds (laugh lines) and the loose neck skin by removing excess fat, tightening muscles and redraping skin. Neck Lift  – When wrinkles take over

Wrinkles, sagging skin, laxity in the jowls and neck begin to appear after years of exposure to the elements, facial expressions and the natural aging process.

Not long ago, a facelift was considered by many to be reserved for movie stars and celebrities. Today, a facelift, or rhytidectomy, is not just for the rich and famous. It is one of the most well- accepted and most frequently performed cosmetic procedures in the United States. Recent studies have shown that looking good has a direct correlation to higher pay. Today, baby boomers from every walk of life are electing to have a facelift for cosmetic as well as economic
reasons.

Look as young as you feel

If you have been considering a facelift to reverse the signs of aging, you should understand what a facelift can and can’t do. Although the incisions made for a facelift are hidden back in your hairline, it does nothing to correct the visible signs of aging in the upper face. A facelift provides an overall lift to the lower third of your face by tightening loose skin in the jowls, neck, and jaw line.

A facelift alone will not remove forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet or bags under your eyes. These areas can, however, be treated at the same time as your facelift. During your initial consultation, Dr. Yco will discuss your particular condition, your expectations, and the probable outcome of your various treatment options. You will be shown several before and after photographs of patients having similar conditions, and we will explain the details of your procedure. Before and after photos may be taken of your face to document your results.

What happens after my surgery?

There will be bruising and swelling that will persist for a few days.  Pain is normally minimal and can be controlled with oral medication. We will take off your bandages in our office in a day or two after surgery. We will wash your hair for you in 3 to 4 days, but you may take a shower or bathe.   Sutures will  be removed in stages to minimize scarring.

Healing is a gradual process. After about two weeks you will feel comfortable (with make- up) among strangers. After three weeks you will look and feel confident enough to go out with friends again. Your face will feel completely “normal” in about ten to twelve weeks. Direct sun should be avoided for several weeks. Most patients are delighted with their new, more youthful and relaxed appearance.

The procedure

A facelift procedure may be performed in your doctor’s office or in an outpatient surgical facility. Premedication is generally recommended to relax the patient. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia with IV  sedation.  But can be performed using a general anesthesia. Dr. Yco will operate on one side of the face at a time. The incision is placed in the natural crease of the facial skin and begins inside the hairline, in the temple area above and forward of the ear. It continues in front of the ear around the earlobe and behind the ear. The skin is lifted outward and the surgeon tightens and repositions the underlying muscles and tissues.

Excess skin and fat may be removed. The incision is then closed with fine sutures and/or metalclips. If metal clips are used, shaving hair from the incision site may be avoided. A facelift can take between two to four hours depending on the extent of the procedure.

How long will the results last?

Some relaxation of facial tissues will occur during the first few weeks. After that, the aging process continues. Your lifestyle choices, bone structure, skin type, sun exposure and heredity all play a role in determining how many years can be removed and for how long. In general younger patients enjoy longer-lasting results. If you are in your forties, the effects may last up to 10 years. If you are in your sixties, your results may last 5 to 7 years.

What about Insurance?

Surgery performed purely for cosmetic reasons may not be covered by your health insurance. However, cosmetic surgeries performed for medical or reconstructive reasons may be covered in part or in whole by your health insurance. It is the patient’s responsibility to check with their insurance provider for information on the degree of coverage. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding payment.

Neck Rejuvenation

As we age, different areas of the face and neck are affected differently. Some people develop wrinkling and sun damage in their entire face and neck. Some people seem to lose facial fat, while others accumulate fat in the neck and maintain good skin tone. Others may develop more exaggerated signs of aging in their neck.

Neck rejuvenation surgery can provide dramatic results, especially when combined with other rejuvenating procedures.

Who is a candidate for neck rejuvenation?

The best candidates for neck rejuvenation are patients in good health with realistic expectations. They have good skin tone and elasticity. It is helpful if they have a fat pad under the skin and on top of the neck muscles.

What conditions can be corrected and with which procedures?

•  Loose, sagging skin under the chin requires tightening of the skin with a laser.
• If the skin is too excessive, it may need to be removed with excisional surgery.
• If you have visible vertical bands in your neck, the neck muscles will need to be tightened in the midline.
• Fat deposits in the neck can be removed with liposuction or direct excision.

What is the recovery process like?

Depending on the extent of the procedure, you may have some swelling and localized bruising which can be covered with make-up. Both are generally gone within 4 to 10 days. A bandage will be placed underneath your chin and an elastic bandage is wrapped around your neck and head. The next morning you may remove the bandage. However, it is important that you continue to wear the elastic garment at night for 2 weeks.

Any sutures that require removal are taken out after about a week to ten days. Over the next several months, as the healing process occurs, the soft suppleness of the neck skin will return.

Following your neck rejuvenation procedure, your pulled back and tightened neck will have a youthful more defined profile. You may resume normal activities almost immediately. Most patients are active and going out by the next day.

The procedures

Neck rejuvenation procedures are generally performed as outpatient procedures, in our surgical suite, using local anesthesia. Each procedure may be combined in order to maximize improvement.

Lasers can be used to tighten the skin that is only a little loose, while neck liposuction is accomplished through tiny incisions placed behind the ears and under the chin. With neck liposuction, little straw-like cannulas arc used to suction the fat away.

Endoscopic surgery through a small incision placed underneath the chin may he used to tighten the neck muscles if you do not have excessive skin.

A necklift may be the best approach if the excess skin is significant. The skin is pulled up and back and the excess skin is removed. This provides a new, more pleasing neck and jaw line. The incisions are hidden inconspicuously behind your ears.
